Inspire...hearts

Sometimes we need to be inspired...I'm hoping this little tutorial will inspire you to make a sweet hanging heart!  It would be cute in valentine colors too!

It is really very simple.
Here is a heart template....or you could draw your own heart shape.
The ribbons I used are just a clump of seam binding ribbons tied together.
I love stamping out words and sayings...the sky's the limit.
You could personalize so easily!
This heart would make a great sachet.

Tiny Strawberry freebie pattern

Today I want to share with you a little freebie pattern....
You make it from old vintage linens....the kind that have damage and have been embroidered on.
They are found very easily at the thrift stores or garage sales....
or you may have some in your stash.
I made a whole bunch....just for fun.
I may put them in my strawberry collection in a bowl....sort of a summer decor thing.
Here they are in my tea cup....so besides being a pin keep....they make a great bowl filler.
You can fit the best part of the embroidery on the strawberry...so easy.
They are cheerful and you can make the tops of the strawberry any color, and any ribbon choice too.
This is the old linen I took these from....it was torn in places so I was not going to use it as a table runner anyway.
They make great friendship swaps and gifts.
Plus...what a great needle minder...just tie it to your embroidery hoop!!!

Japanese dollar store goodies

I recently went to Seattle for a vacation and knew I was going to find the Japanese dollar store there.
The Daiso japan store is located at the Westlake mall where the monorail is.
It was so much fun...full of unusual items....but I loved all the crafty goodness!
Variegated embroidery floss...1.50 for the pack. I love how it is so cutely packaged.
Almost everything in the store is $1.50
Threads....of all colors!
Page markers...I got some cute ones...my daughter chose teddy bears.
Fun wrapping paper.
A thick drawing tablet...perfect to sketch ideas!
Washi tape!
Lots of fun papers....and I could have spent alot longer there....but my families patience was wearing thin....lol.
-----------------------------------------
I found this cool purse on Bainbridge island.
I love what it says too... Love who you are.
Isn't the artwork lovely!!
So darned cool!
I may put some art supplies in it...for when I go to my sister's house to draw and watercolor.
------------------------------------------
Later this week I will show you my fabric finds....I am so happy with them!

By the sea...the beautiful sea

By the sea....by the sea... by the beautiful sea...
You and me, you and me...oh how happy we'll be!
There was a song that went like that...
This is my newest design....a pattern which will get you ready for summer!
This pattern is now in my etsy shop, patternmart, and if you like printed and mailed patterns...please go to my website.
In the good olde Summertime... the beach is the place to be. These bunnies are enjoying the summertime activities...swimming, playing with a toy boat and eating ice cream. Little bunny is sneaking up on the big bunny.

This is such a charming embroidery quilt wallhanging....so quick, easy and fun to do. This is so lovely in your summer home decor or at your lake house. This could easily be made into a pillow.

Celebrating BFF's!

Have you ever had a friend....that no matter how long you haven't seen her....the minute you get together...it is like you saw each other yesterday?
How about a friend that listens to all your griping and then makes you feel great!
Or what about that friend that never tells your secrets?
Let's celebrate BFF's!
I had a blast decorating this clear frame...from Deflecto.
First I dolled up this old fashioned photo...on a free photo editing app.
I added text "Best Friends Forever", a Polaroid looking border and a title "Betty & Lizzy 1945".
This frame is clear and it unscrews so you can add a photo...then it screws back securely. Very chic!
I then wrapped one side and the bottom area with bakers twine...in 2 different shade of pink.

I tied up a bow....and inserted this little chenille stem heart.
You just take half of a chenille bump stem...these are at hobby lobby.
and fold both ends inward to make a heart shape.
You can insert the hearts into the bakers twine.
(If you want to...you can twist the ends of the chenille stem or glue with a drop of glue from a hot glue gun.)
It is an easy way to dress up this frame for Valentine's day.
This would make a great gift for your BFF.
Take a photo of you and your BFF and make it black and white with the photo editor.
You can even add overlays to make the photo look old.

My Valentine floral surface pattern design

I have been working hard on learning adobe illustrator...getting all the techniques down.
It is very fun and exciting when a pattern design is put together....feels like a miracle.

One of the funnest parts is changing up the colors.....I really love that part.

Can you believe that this is the same pattern design....the color changes make everyone unique.

It is amazing to me how different they can be.
The backgrounds can be changed as well as the elements.
Basically I drew some hearts, flowers, and a stem with hearts.  I added some dots and leaves too.
I would never have thought to put some of these colors in these spots...but the program allows random changes and then you can save them.
This one reminds me of St. Patricks day.
I love this black one...it reminds me of what a little Swiss girls dress might have on it.
Beautiful pinks....love this one....so soft.
Hot pink!
Lavender and yellow....amazing.
I saved a lot more color combos....just showing these ones.
I will keep working on design...there is much more to learn.....but I have the basics down for sure.

Hope and Harmony- My surface pattern collection

I am very happy to have completed 10 designs....that can be used to make fabric, product licensing, wallpaper...etc...
I have been learning Adobe Illustrator....and have been practicing and practicing to get it all down.
I am calling this collection Hope and Harmony.....a little corny....but I like corny...lol.

I drew everything and made the repeating patterns on all of them.
It is really an addicting process....every time I made a different design...I was higher than the moon!
Some designs were from simple doodles and some were alot more complicated.
Some designs are meant for the "Star" design to shine....it is like having supporting actors or extras in a movie....they make the "Star" better in the movie.
This one is alot pinker in my adobe program...to me anyway.
I love me some PINK!
You can scale this designs...making the elements larger or smaller...so cool.
I am going to spend this month making lots more repeating patterns!
Ohhh....I like this one above alot!
Makes me want Spring so bad.....It will come....gotta be patient.
This is the "Star" design and so is the same one in Green version.
I put them in collages too...just to get an idea....I am sure I will grow more and more as I go along.
I did some Halloween designs earlier....I need to work on them some more.
Sometimes it seems like there is not enough time for it all...
I like to do it all anyway...lol.
Anyone else learning surface pattern design?
Let me know by commenting...I would love to see your work!
