May....day calendar freebie

It's May.....day!
I made another set of phone/tablet calendar wallpapers and desktop for the computer...
for MAY....and it's free.
These are my very simple teal flowers....a fun repeating pattern design.
I really enjoy playing with color combinations and since this is usually not my kind of colors...it was fun!
Just save and set as your desktop wallpaper.
The solid blue on the left side is perfect so you can still see your desktop icons.

International quilt market is coming very soon now!

We are working hard getting ready for it...seems like there is always more to do.

One of the hardest things I have left is clothes shopping...I just don't like it.
We will be sure to take plenty of pics and videos.

Happy May to you!

Designing and illustrating...

On this post I would like to share a little about the process of making repeating pattern designs...
designs that could be used on fabric, a shower curtain, pillows, stationary and so on.
Above is a flower pot design...very simple yet sweet.
I chose a gray background to highlight the vibrant colors I chose.
The line in the flower pot really isn't there....that is part of the adobe illustrator program.

I basically drew this flowerpot with flowers and colored it....on the computer.9
Sometimes ....It first starts as a line drawing in black, then I color it and in the diagram shown above... I got rid of the black lines outlining everything.

To make drawings seem less flat...it is good to add texture...like with these tiny dots and blobs. I added it to the flower pot and flowers...in a different shade.
Here is a hexigon with a simple yellow background and white flowers....
then when I add background textures and different shades of flowers ...the repeating pattern becomes much more interesting and less flat.

Most repeating designs start with drawing and illustrations put on a background like this gray square.
Everything is mathmatically placed down to the pixel...to create a perfect repeat.
The right side has to line up the left side and the top to the bottom.

Above is my computer screen with the repeating design....that repeats perfectly to infinity.

I put my profile on the corner and changed up my outfit to match the colors in this design.
This is just for labeling this design as mine.

Here is how this flowerpot design could look on products....a dress, lamp shade, purse, cell phone...etc...
Pretty fun!

This little diagram just shows how different a simple illustration looks with a white outline...from no outline on down to a big outline.  Sometimes it is fun to use so the illustration pops out at you and gets your attention.

I just thought you might be interested in my perspective of fabric design...there are a lot of classes on line....if you want to know more.

My daughter Selina made a cool new video that pretty much goes over one of her surface pattern design portfolios.
Take a peek !
I am proud of her...so young....so talented!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you love Instagram... I do...I am kinda addicted to it....so much inspiration and tons of fun talking to people too!
Come check out my Instagram page...full of fun photos, ideas, patterns, and more!
I shared this week my new watercolor fabric design!
Lots of soft colors and pretty posies.
Usually watercolors have hundreds of shade of colors in each piece of artwork...and fabric can only have 15-18 colors at the most.  But I learned how to reduce it to 15-18 colors and still have a watercolor look to it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
My sale pattern for the week is....
St. Patrick's day ornaments and banner pattern #353.
Let your love of green show this St. Patrick's day! These chenille stem ornaments have a vintage flair...plus they are fun, easy, and quick to make. All the artwork for 8 different designs and banners are included!
(This sale pattern is for individual use, not classes....it is a digital download)

Christmas calories do not count freebie

This is true...right!
I am hoping so anyway.
I have been eating so many yummies...that it will be a very good thing to get back to better eating soon after christmas.
Those chocolate kisses, candy canes and fudge really get me!
I can't resist cheese and cracker platters either.
This would make a fun stitchery framed for the kitchen.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I having been making surface pattern designs...like this crow and flowers one...so much fun to do.  I tried adding more texture to the design....so it won't look so flat.
I realy enjoy working on it...it is really like playing.
I hope to get a few collections done before Spring quilt market.
I have been whipping up a gingerbread ornament for a gift exchange...using my old pin pattern.
I am using the gingerbread and adding some hollys.
So far, so good.
I need to finish this up soon!
Trix says she approves of the roses I got for our 21st wedding anniversary!
Here is my wonderful hubby....at the cabin being a silly boy!
I love him so very much...we had a wonderful anniversary.
I finally took some new photos of my christmas ornaments...and fixed the covers of my patterns...so much better.
over the years I have learned alot...including better photography!

Seems like there is so much to do this time of year!
Gotta get more things done.
Have  a wonderful weekend!

-------------------------------------
My sale pattern of the week is......
For this week (until next Friday) this pattern is only $2.99!
Click the link for the deal.
I have been working on pansy designs...
one of my favorite flowers.
I once has the cutest calico cat that was named pansy...she was a sweetie.
My mom said she had a pansy face.
I also love these colors....purples and blues.
This one took me a while...I kept messing it up.
But I was determined.
This one is simple yet delicate.
Not every design needs to shine loudly.
I put them together to see how they look ....I like it.
Different colors combinations really give another fun look.
I like the combo of light background with all the bright pansies.
Now to buy some pansies for my planter!
(These pansy designs are not freebies...just have to be clear...sorry)

Practice makes much better!

Many of you guys know I am always working on fabric design.
I love doing it and I love playing around.
Above is a design with Valentines in mind.
I put these fabric designs in the hexie flower.
I love drawing cute characters....like this Birthday party bunny.
I love romantic florals and motifs....
and I love bold colors like this orange.
Lime green is a favorite of mine when it comes to color choices.
Sweet and simple is important...because not every design can be a "Star"....some have to be the supporting cast.
I love the variety of colors in this one.
This is a collection that all fits together...it reminds me of a lemon aid stand...in colors that is.

Flowers in vases...
Big over sized or giant scale is fun.
Beautiful grays...

This is a mock up of what some of my fabric would look like on products.
Scarecrows!

And just the scarecrow heads...lol.
Pumpkins....

Some of these designs are older....some are brand new...
but I love them all...
and this is just a small fraction of what I have made so far.

Thanks for stopping by!
