Star Spangled Flag freebie

I was doodling in the backyard...and this is what I was inspired to draw.

A big flag with tons of stars.

This would be sweet stitched in the corner of a dishtowel.

I made a set of clip art...using elements from my surface pattern designs collection....called autumn fields....which is in my etsy shop.

There are 15 png (transparent background) files.

There is a large scarecrow (also with a black outline...same image), a pumpkin, leaves, vines, moon, stars, Hello autumn banner sign, 2 different kinds of wheat, scarecrow head, & yellow grass. 

This is how you could use it for example...this is a black background I painted....and I put the images on top...using a free photo editor called Pixlr express.

I also added words using that photo editor.

Here I had a background of chipped painted board....this would make a cute invitation to a harvest party. 

I included a scarecrow that had a black lining ...for a different look. 

I put it on old ledger paper.

You can add these images to your pictures....I took this a couple years ago...it was a cool house in my walk.

I love playing around with these images.

Halloween....already?

I know it seems way early to be working on Halloween.....but it really is not....for designing.

I love working on my surface pattern designing skills.

Above is "Autumn fields".

I love scarecrows and fall....I love the orange pumpkins.  To me the pumpkin is the big symbol of Halloween and fall...just love that time of year.

I wanted this collection....which I would love to make into fabric...to make you think of Halloweens in your childhood.

Those warm rays from the autumn sky....but a chill in the air.

I want you to imagine a field of wheat....with scarecrows guarding it.

This is how the collection looks together...in this color combo.

I always wanted a white pumpkin....but I always buy orange ones.

I would like them in a quilt however.

Needle punch....Halloween?

I know...it is too early for Halloween!

But I had a sewing group to go to and had to bring something.

I really wanted to do something different and something that was not my own design.

So I found a kit I had from Brenda Gervais

I had made one of the designs years ago...and two were still in the kit. 

Here is a midway through picture...we had lots of fun with all the ladies chit chatting ...it was almost is hard to work on anything...lol. 

Here is what is looks like where you punch the needle in. 

This is the kit/pattern.  I already made the lower pumpkin.

I only have the turkey left.

I used DMC floss. 

It is hard to see....but the orange background has varying colors of orange...which is rich looking.

So when I finished it...I added it to this small basket...added some crazy black fringy yarn around it.

I also added a pin that says"Eek!".  It is just a scrap of muslin...stamped with the letters....glittered up a bit and glued onto the top of a pin.

Learning something new!

Boy ...is it hard to learn something new....but it is sooo worth it.

Right now I am learning adobe illustrator.....it is all pretty new to me...complicated ...and yet I am very thankful I know a lot about computers.

I made the pattern above....just to practice.

This is called a repeating pattern....designs used for fabric design and all kinds of other surfaces.

This is a poor shot...just a screen shot I blew up.

I just wanted to show you what I am working on.

The colors are better than this.

When you are working on designs....it is like working on a work table...stuff everywhere.

I learned a lot from Bonnie Christines classes on Creativelive plus in the roost tribe membership she has videos.

I checked to see if my design would fit in any shape...it does!

This is a watercolor painting I did...I took the colors from it to make a color palette for my skull balloon design. 

There is so much that goes into this....very complex.

Having a blast though!!!

Changing colors is the easiest thing...so fun too.

Memorial day is upon us....I have been thinking a lot of the men and women who did so much for our country.

We have the greatest nation on the planet....

I wish for one day that all political parties could just be happy about what a wonderful country we have!

I'm in Prims Magazine!

I have 2 projects in the New Prims Magazine....Summer 2013 issue.
It is out May 1st.
I love being a part of such a cool magazine.
I have been in over 50 in the past.....but it is always nice to be in such a good quality magazine....I love Somerset studio mags!
Ok...I will admit it...I am addicting to them.

One project is this cool crow ....  I love decorating for patriotic holidays....which are coming!
